Hey. More than likely this is folliculitis – it’s an infected hair follicle. Happens fairly regularly if you have hair on the shaft of your penis and have been having sex, masturbating a lot, used condoms and got hairs caught in it and yanked, or if you had something on your hand when you touch the area around the hair and it got infected.
It could be herpes, but they tend to have a particular look and a hair coming out of a herpes sore would probably be warped or broken from the infection heat. Herpes sores burn and hurt to the touch, but then, so do infected follicles.
It sounds like you are doing exactly what I would recommend. Go get it tested. Keep your hand OFF it. Wash it carefully in the shower with soap and blot dry. Wash your hands after handling. You don’t want to run the risk of spreading it to other parts of your body if it is herpes.

i have the same problem and the doctor has said that it is folliculitis. because of the frequency of me masturbating and not wearing underwear and my dick rubbing inside my jeans the hairs break off and the follicle gets irritated. you can get it checked to be safe, but i wouldn’t sweat it.

Probably just an infected hair…No matter what, Get it checked.

Probably just an ingrown. Have you had any unprotected sex?
