Unfortunately, all surgery is extremely expensive.
This was my experience. I went to a surgeon for a consultation on a breast lump. ($150) He recommended that I have it removed. He told me he would perform the surgery at a certain hospital and I could apply for charity care at the hospital.
For the outpatient breast biopsy (I know, different procedure… but as an example) the cost was over $12,000 ($6,000 for the surgeon, $900 for the anesthesiologist, $5,000+ for the hospital use of a room, equipment, drugs, etc) ! Charity care at this hospital covered the use of hospital equipment and the room. It did not cover the doctors’ bill. I still had to pay the surgeon $1,200 (he dropped the price from $6,000) and the anesthesiologist another $900.
Nearly every hospital has some sort of charity organization for those who are uninsured and unable to pay. Generally the doctor doing the surgery will not be negotiating a price drop for you. In my case, I spoke to the billing department in his office and they were very nice and willing to help.
I would make an appointment with a surgeon and talk about your options. You can explain your financial situation and try to work something out.
I hope you the best.
Mike this is going to sound gross and it was, but I had the same thing, it lasted about 2 months, I went to my doctor and he recommended leaving it alone for a while. So this is what I did just 2 hours ago, I boiled a pair of tweesers, small scissors and a razorblade, washed my hands and arms with anti bacterial soap and cut the damn thing open, cleaned it out, searched for the hair which took a long time, pulled it, anti bacterial cream and a bandaid, I will update you in a few days and let you know if my penis is still attached to my body. But seriously it was a little painful, physically and mentally doing that to my penis but I did for sure remove the problem, now I’m just keeping a close eye out for infection.
